Research Coordinator

The Role

Our Research Coordinator is an integral part of our Research and Innovation department where you will take ownership for coordinating the research funding program. This includes using your project management skills to track and report on project progress and finances, assist with preparation and editing of research documents, and coordinate research update meetings. In this role you will also engage with stakeholder groups to ensure that external initiatives add value to our farmer-members.

Your day-to-day

  • Coordinate the GFO call for research proposals and proposal review processes
  • Proactively identify and pursue funding programs and sources of matching research investments to maximize the impact of GFO research funds
  • Navigate financial reporting requirements of complex funding programs and proactively guide and liaise between researchers, administration at research institutions, and external funding agencies to maintain strong business relationships and fulfill funding program requirements
  • Set up and track research projects ensuring research progress, financial reporting, and budgets are on track and agreements and funding program requirements are followed
  • Bring new ideas forward pertaining to effective grains research coordination
  • Handle inquiries from researchers, industry and farmers about research funding opportunities
  • Prepare summaries of research projects and project budgets
  • Coordinate research update meetings and assemble information for the Research Committee
  • Liaise with the communications department to produce research content
  • Promote GFO research priorities through stakeholder meetings
  • Keep up to date with general knowledge and awareness of issues affecting Ontario grains and oilseeds

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree. Preference for Bachelor of Science
  • General knowledge of Ontario grain and oilseed production
  • Excellent project management skills to effectively coordinate financial and progress reporting for 40+ active research projects involving multiple funding programs and researchers
  • Effective time-management skills required to manage and prioritize the demands of multiple overlapping timeframes and deadlines
  • Robust working knowledge of financial management principles
  • High attentiveness to detail to effectively track finances and ensure detailed requirements of funding programs are met
  • Creative and analytical problem solver and critical thinker
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with professional written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficient with Excel as well as full MS Office suite (Outlook, Access, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Good understanding of research processes, the current research environment, and the process of project development
  • Self-motivated, capable of working both independently and within a team to achieve excellence
  • Able to work under pressure and in stressful situations
  • Sound judgment and integrity in all actions
