Senior Agronomist

Grain Farmers of Ontario is seeking a passionate Senior Agronomist to provide leadership and technical advice to Ontario grain farmers, industry stakeholders and all departments within Grain Farmers of Ontario.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent technical and practical knowledge of current and emerging production topics affecting grain farmers and superior inter-personal and communication abilities to engage a diverse audience.

The Senior Agronomist will:

  • Develop a prominent, respected public presence as Grain Farmers of Ontario’s Senior Agronomist through active participation in grower conferences, meetings, and media interviews, helping farmers improve the economic, environmental, and social sustainability of their farms with unbiased advice
  • Develop and promote Grain Farmers of Ontario perspectives on grain production issues through external committee involvement and stakeholder initiatives, including policy development discussions with government and private industry
  • Lead Grain Farmers of Ontario’s efforts to promote the development, demonstration and commercialization of new technologies that will help Ontario grain farmers improve their production ability. This includes seeking and developing new innovative ways to engage the broader technology sector to realize new opportunities for farmers.
  • Bring new ideas forward pertaining to grain research and contribute to the development of Grain Farmers of Ontario research priorities

Qualifications and Education

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree with a broad background in agronomy or a related discipline
  • Certified Crop Advisor designation Preferred, 4R certification an asset
  • 5+ years relevant work experience as a Certified Crop Advisor or equivalent
  • Excellent knowledge of Ontario grain and oilseed production and current issues and opportunities affecting the sector
  • Knowledgeable and deeply interested in agricultural development in Ontario with a demonstrated ability to effectively track and communicate emerging trends in production agriculture
  • Broad understanding of the agricultural sciences and an ability to translate science results into practical messages
  • Polished presentation skills and excellent written and verbal command of the English language, with a strong understanding of tone required for various audiences. Bilingualism (French/English) considered an asset.

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Grain Farmers of Ontario team and reports to the Vice President, Strategic Development.
