Ontario is a significant grain and oilseed production region within Canada, growing over 65 per cent of Canada’s corn, 60 per cent of Canada’s soybeans and 88 per cent of Canada’s soft wheat, with oats and barley grown in smaller volumes1. Ontario is home to several industry clusters, including ingredient processing, food and beverage production, and biofuel production. The province is also well positioned for international trade, with robust export infrastructure and terminal elevators moving Ontario grains efficiently through the Great Lakes and St Lawrence Seaway into the Atlantic Ocean shipping routes and beyond.
Grain Farmers of Ontario conducts market development activities on behalf of farmer-members by promoting information on the province’s annual crop production, quality, and sustainability. Grain Farmers of Ontario does not engage directly in grain marketing transactions and cannot supply grains to purchasers. Ontario farmers contract with elevators, processors, or export terminals to market their grain.
