Guelph, Ont. September 11, 2026 – Grain Farmers of Ontario congratulates Sam Oosterhoff, Member of Provincial Parliament for Niagara West, on his appointment as Ontario’s new Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Agribusiness.

Oosterhoff has served as the MPP for Niagara West since 2016 and has held several roles within the provincial government including Parliamentary Assistant and Associate Minister. Grain Farmers of Ontario looks forward to working with Minister Oosterhoff as he takes on the agriculture portfolio and to building on the organization’s longstanding relationship with the Ontario government.

“Ontario’s grain farmers need strong leadership as they navigate the continued uncertainty in global markets, rising input costs, trade disruptions, and increasing pressure on farm businesses,” says Jeff Harrison, chair, Grain Farmers of Ontario. “We congratulate Minister Oosterhoff on his appointment and are ready to work alongside him to advance policies that strengthen the competitiveness and resilience of Ontario’s grain and oilseed sector.”

Ontario’s grain and oilseed farmers are a significant contributor to the provincial economy, generating more than $27 billion in economic output and supporting more than 90,000 jobs across the province.

“Minister Oosterhoff is taking on this role at an important time for Ontario agriculture,” says Crosby Devitt, CEO, Grain Farmers of Ontario. “Our farmer-members are looking for a strong provincial partner to help address the challenges facing their businesses, including trade and market access, risk management, infrastructure, and the cost of doing business. Grain Farmers of Ontario will continue to bring the voice of Ontario’s grain farmers to the table as the ministry works to ensure the province remains a competitive place to farm.”

Grain Farmers of Ontario also thanks the Honourable Trevor Jones for his service as Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Agribusiness, and his work with Ontario’s agriculture sector during his time in the portfolio.

Grain Farmers of Ontario is committed to advancing priorities that support thriving farms, responsible production, and trusted grain farmers, and welcomes the opportunity to engage with Minister Oosterhoff and the Ontario government on the issues that matter most to Ontario’s grain farmers.
