Grain Farmers of Ontario congratulates new federal government
GUELPH, ON (October 22, 2015) – Grain Farmers of Ontario congratulates Prime Minister Trudeau and all elected members of parliament on their new appointments.
“We look forward to working with the new government on issues of immediate concern to Ontario's grain farmers,” says Mark Brock, Chair of Grain Farmers of Ontario. “Critical issues include adequate funding for safety net programs and public plant research.”
Business risk management for grain farmers and investment in public plant research have both been the subject of major cutbacks over the last several years. A significant re-design of the existing safety net programs is needed in order to make them relevant to all sectors of agriculture and effective for Ontario's grain farmers.
“We are also looking forward to the appointment of a new federal Agriculture Minister who works with agriculture in all regions of Canada and who has a strong, current knowledge of the challenges facing our sector,” says Brock.
