Communications Coordinator

Grain Farmers of Ontario is looking for a creative communicator to join our team. The Role

The Communications Coordinator will coordinate and execute proactive communication programs intended to raise awareness of Grain Farmers of Ontario and the work done by the organization among its members, related government entities, industry and the public. They will coordinate and execute the Grain Farmers of Ontario communications activities and assist the communications team in developing additional publication pieces as needed.

Your day-to-day

  • Support GFO department initiatives, programs, and special projects by creating and executing communication plans that contribute to their success through communications. 
  • Work on effective farmer-member communication programs to maximize GFO’s ability to get information to members while maintaining existing member communications channels such as social media, weekly radio reports, and member updates.
  • Proactively look for new ways to communicate to, and engage, farmer-members and bring forward innovative ways to promote the GFO brand and story.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a variety of media from various industries to help proactively share important information to and through media and build trust in influencers. 
  • Write farmer-member and media facing content, including press releases, one-pagers, infographics, newsletter content, presentations, and magazine content.
  • Monitor media daily on key topics and specific publications to find opportunities for Grain Farmers of Ontario to be “part of the conversation”.
  • Work with the Creative Specialist to ensure all communications and other collateral aligns with Grain Farmers of Ontario brand guidelines
  • Support at events as needed.

What you will Bring

  • College Diploma in Communications, Public Relations, or related field
  • 2 years’ experience writing for communications activities – experience writing for marketing and media relations is considered an asset
  • Experience in the Ontario Agricultural industry is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of current communication trends, practices, and techniques including social media
  • Proven ability to write engaging content for a variety of audiences
  • Ability to build relationships with various partners to maximize Grain Farmers of Ontario’s exposure
  • An innovative mindset to keep practices current and effective while maintaining historic practices that work
  • Capacity to stay organized and meet deadlines while managing tasks and shifting priorities
  • Flexibility to travel and willingness to work outside of normal office hours when the circumstances dictate
  • Understanding of the Ontario Agricultural industry is considered an asset
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Sound judgment, integrity in all actions, critical thinking skills

Location: Guelph, ON

Hours of work: Full Time, Monday-Friday, 35 hours/week (extended hours and weekends as required)
