Grains Educator

Grain Farmers of Ontario is looking for an enthusiastic educator who loves to communicate through storytelling. The Role

The Grains Educator plays an important role in building public trust and advocating for grain farmers in Ontario. They will manage and execute the “Grains on the Go” (GotG) educational program to introduce agriculture topics to elementary children through curriculum-compliant, science-based teaching materials. The Grains Educator will develop and use these materials when they visit schools across Ontario with the GotG trailer and share these materials with teachers to use in their classrooms.

Your day-to-day

  • Bring the GotG program to elementary schools throughout Ontario to teach curriculum-compliant grains-based lessons advocating for the benefits of Ontario grains through science-based materials including the GotG trailer
  • Create materials to supplement the trailer curriculum and teach accurate, science-based information about the practices of grain farming and are compliant with the Ontario elementary school curriculum
  • Attend public educational events with the GotG trailer to promote grain farming to students and the public using science-based material.
  • Build and manage the GotG program calendar including connecting with schools to generate bookings and working with schools to plan visit logistics
  • Collaborate on educational materials to ensure a flow between the GotG program and the classroom pillars under the GiEG brand
  • Act as the spokesperson for GFO educational programs at events to drive engagement with the public
  • Ensure the GFO truck and GotG trailer are serviced as per the regular service schedule and approved repairs are completed
  • Support the communications team at GFO events as needed

What you will bring

  • Strong ability to provide effective presentations and engage the public through lesson plans and storytelling
  • Proven track record of successfully planning event logistics
  • Capacity to build and maintain relationships with school partners
  • Knowledge of Ontario grain farming and agronomy best practices preferred
  • Flexibility to travel and willingness to work outside of normal office hours when the circumstances dictate
  • Must possess a valid G-class license
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario elementary curriculum
  • Ability to develop effective curriculum-compliant lesson plans
  • Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Sound judgment, integrity in all actions, critical thinking skills
