Grains in Action

February 5-8, 2024.

Grains in Action is a four-day program for young farmers to gain knowledge about the end uses of the grains they grow. Participants also learn about the role of Grain Farmers of Ontario within the grain industry and how they can become active members within the organization. It is an opportunity for new experiences, building relationships, and professional growth.

What does the program include?

Grains in Action is a tour-based program, with stops that highlight the different aspects of the grain value chain. Tour stops in 2024 include Pride Seeds, Cargill, Sylvite, Harrow Research Centre, J.P. Wiser’s Distillery, ADM, IGPC, Ingredion, and Wallenstein Feed.

The course also includes discussions with Grain Farmers of Ontario staff about the work our organization does on behalf of farmer-members, including Government Relations, Communications, Market Development, Agronomy, Research, and Member Relations. We will also have networking opportunities with current Grain Farmers of Ontario delegates and industry representatives.

Grain Farmers of Ontario covers the complete cost of the program*, including meals, bus transportation to tours, and hotels; however, participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from the program. The program will begin and end at the Grand River Agriculture Society in Elora, Ontario. Personal vehicles will remain on site in their security patrolled parking lot.

Who should attend?

Young farmers who are enrolled in college/university with the intent of working on the farm after graduation; or those who have been actively farming for a couple of years and are looking to learn more about the grain industry and Grain Farmers of Ontario. Anyone aged 19-35 is eligible to participate.
