4R Cooperation Agreement, December 2018 Update
Recently, Grain Farmers of Ontario partnered with Fertilizer Canada, OMAFRA, OABA, OFA and CFFO in the signing of a 4R Ontario Cooperation Agreement. The various parties together have contributed funding for over the next three years to help provide solutions for growers facing rising pressures of reducing environmental impacts while maximizing yields and economic benefit.
The principles of the 4R program are valuable to our farmer members. When the issues facing Lake Erie arose we found that with a little tailoring the 4R program was an excellent framework for our farmers to improve best management practices that help reduce the risk of phosphorous getting into the watershed. The roll out of the 4R program across Ontario is an essential component to our commitment to the Lake Erie Action Plan. We have a number of other initiatives we are also working on to make sure phosphorus stays on the farm and the great lakes are protected.
